Certified Tutor
I am currently a PhD candidate in Sociology at Stanford University. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and International Studies with honors from Spelman College, where I was first introduced to tutoring as a peer tutor in the Comprehensive Writing Center. I continued tutoring as a graduate student at the Stanford University Hume Center for Writing and Speaking where I worked with students from a wide range of undergraduate, graduate, and professional school degree programs. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about guiding students through writing processes to complete tasks ranging from brief literary reports and lab papers to preparing writing samples (personal and research statements) and extensive thesis projects. I also enjoy tutoring social science oriented fields including but not limited to sociology, social anthropology, and history. Sometimes getting ideas on paper and organizing them can be the most challenging hurdle. In my experience working with students we find the most satisfaction in brainstorming and recording ideas in the early stages of writing. Learning can be a messy process filled with many ups and downs. I believe that when we embrace this imperfect, continuous process of being lifelong learners, we can not only accomplish the most challenging tasks, but also appreciate the journey and become better scholars along the way.
