I am a graduate of East Tennessee State University. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Bluegrass, Old-time, Celtic, and Country Music with a minor in Appalachian Studies. While studying at ETSU, I joined a progressive Bluegrass band from Asheville, NC and was able to tour professionally while working toward my degree. After graduating in 2018, I have been very fortunate to rely on music as my only occupation. A few of my experiences with the band have been touring all over North America (including Canada and Mexico), playing over 1,000 shows, and countless recording studio sessions.
I have had the pleasure of teaching many students of all ages and skill levels throughout my career. One thing that I have learned in that time is that a student learns better when the curriculum is geared toward their specific interests. As a guitar/music teacher, the first thing I try to do is learn what kind of music the student is passionate about and then create a lesson plan based on those interests. I can teach students of all skill levels guitar techniques such as flatpicking, fingerpicking, and hybrid-picking. While Bluegrass and "Jamgrass" are generally what I play professionally, I am happy to explore any kind of musical genre and my personal taste in music is very eclectic. I'm just as eager to teach new students as I am to continue to learn and grow on my own musical journey.
