Mathematics is my passion, both in a school setting in that I am going to graduate school for mathematics, but also in a personal sense. I spend a lot of time self-studying different topics. Of late I have started studying a topic called "Analytic Number theory". Now that may seem like a scary name but many students learn aspects of this without knowing. That is what I love about mathematics, it is a complicated web of interconnected topics, each helping one another. In fact, there is an entire effort in mathematics studying this, it is called the "Langlands Program".
For the last five years, I have been studying Mathematics and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Cincinnati, the Aerospace Engineering program is a five-year program. I am graduating May 2, 2025, with a B.A. in Mathematics and a B.S. in Mathematics. In the fall I am continuing my education at the University of California, Santa Cruz, with the goal of a Ph.D. in Mathematics.
When I am not studying, I enjoy the outdoors. My favorite thing to do is kayaking. Day-long journeys are my new goal for this upcoming summer. I also restore old Oliver tractors, my favorite tractor is my Oliver 1650 diesel. I started driving it when I was 8 years old at the farm that I worked on. The farm went under when I turned 20 and decided to keep the tractor, to always remind me of my roots.
I like to teach the way one of my favorite teachers taught me. The best way I can describe this, is rigorous but understanding. Rigorous in the sense that mathematics must be consistent, and understanding in the sense that if a student is having trouble, I will stop and explain in further detail the nuances. I am also a firm believer in learning by example. Examples help students get hands-on with mathematics, and that is the best way to get a feel for it.
At the end of the day, I just love giving back. I can not think of a better for me to give back than to help students learn the subject that I am so passionate about. Whatever background or interest a student has in mathematics, I am happy to help them study such an important and beautiful topic. Mathematics reminds me of the outdoors in that it is so chaotic, yet so consistent. It is not about having the most expensive or new tools or calculators, it is about deeply and truly understanding the foundations that you have to work with.
