Tutoring review by Rachel in Menlo Park, CA
The student and I continued to review the packet on the autonomic and sympathetic nervous system. We discussed the differences in pre and postganglionic nerve length and the different receptors (muscarinic or nicotinic) that are present in each branch. We reviewed how acetylcholine is synthesized and how it acts on the post-synaptic nerve terminal as well as touching briefly on adrenergic receptors (for epinephrine and norepinephrine). We also began a brief review of immunology in which we covered the different types of immune system (adaptive and innate) and the components of each of them.

I challenged the student with a third grade book. He did much better than I thought he would. He still has problems between "a" and "the," which do not look alike. He also did well with comprehension. We practices raising voice and the end of a question, lowering voice at the end of a sentence and continuing to speak a little louder with expression for an exclamation point. He read 32 pages.

The student and I continued her work on rotational motion.  She only missed one question on her last quiz, which was an improvement.  We are moving slowly and methodically through chapter nine because it is not very intuitive and is extremely detail oriented.  She seems to be understanding it well.
