Today the student and I went over his homework. He was covering a new concept: graphing inequalities. We worked on solving and graphing the inequalities and also looked ahead to solving a linear system by graphing.

The student first worked on some Math from her textbook where we identified rays, segments, and lines. We also had to find complementary and supplementary angles. Then she had an assignment to take a receipt from a restaurant and calculate what percentage tip was given. She has definitely improved on her percentages and proportions. We then worked on her spelling homework, and this week's words seemed to be quite easy for her. We then moved on to some worksheets I had brought. We converted decimals to fractions and fractions back to decimals. The student said that she struggled with this on her last test, and wanted to get more practice on these concepts. I will keep working with her on the conversions until she feels totally confident. At the end of our session we took a few minutes because the student was very excited to show me a group video project she had done about The Hobbit for her class. She was very proud and I really loved that she shared it with me!

Today we prepared for the student's upcoming quiz by studying all of section 9.2, which covered arithmetic sequences, how to work with the various forms they could be presented in, and how to translate between those forms. The section also covered working with partial sums of arithmetic sequences. The student is ready for her quiz, and we are planning on meeting this Wednesday to finalize our review.

Today we went over the student's summer math packet. The packet covers Algebra 1 concepts that should be mastered already. We worked on concepts including functions, simplifying expressions, writing equations from word problems, and reviewed vocabulary terms like domain and range. She had a positive attitude throughout the session. I also helped her memorize world regions, state locations (and abbreviations) and locating bodies of water on a map for her world geography. Overall great session -- we will continue working on these reviews for the remainder of this week.

Tutoring review by Grace in Gary, IN
We spent most of our session going over linear functions, linear inequalities, and absolute value functions. Absolute value functions was one of the toughest concepts, but the student mastered those problems by the end of the session. She did an awesome job implementing the strategies I gave her, especially since we covered such a wide range of material.

Tutoring review by Laura in Gary, IN
In this class, the student and I were having a conversation about possible cases in Spanish. While doing this, I helped him with some vocabulary and corrected some grammatical. He seemed to enjoy this conversation since this is the area that he needs the most. I also helped him understand the condicional perfecto and corrected some of his homework. The essays he has been writing are improving every time. Today, while I was correcting his essays, he did a paragraph in the future tense and he did a great job. We do not need to work in such verb tense. From now on, we will work in the tiempos compuestos.
