I graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. I also studied Philosophy, History, and Sociology. As an undergraduate I became a writing tutor and coached other college students toward improving their general study skills (time management, test prep, note taking, etc.) At the end of my degree, I spent a summer studying Literature and Writing at the University of Cambridge. Upon returning to the United States, I began working with at-risk teens in residential treatment centers in Utah. Those inspiring experiences reignited my interest in teaching, so I enrolled in a university licensing program. Since completing the program, I have taught middle school and high school both in Washington D.C. and Salt Lake City.
I currently work full-time developing online education programs for a non-profit in Arlington. I have passion for all things related to education, but I find that tutoring is the most fulfilling. Tutoring allows me to help others improve their knowledge and skills, but many other rewards come as a result of my tutoring philosophy. My tutoring philosophy centers around relationships. Trusting and inspiring relationships enable greater academic success because tutoring influences often impact the views and decisions of students beyond the tutoring realm. I love to see my students flourish in other aspects of life as a direct result of their studies. I believe that rigorous study accompanied with an inspiring tutoring relationship leads to the best outcomes for all individuals involved.
I have taught History, World Geography, Humanities, and Government, but I most enjoy helping others improve their writing. Writing is a difficult craft to master and holds endless possibilities. I enjoy the outdoors and am most content being in nature with a good book or talking with friends around a campfire. I am an 80's enthusiast and appreciate thoughtful and evocative films. I have driven across the US several times and been to every state but Maine, Alaska, and Hawaii. The highlight of all my travels has been hiking mountains in Scotland while donning a kilt--few better ways exist to get in touch with ones ancestors.I enjoy all aspects of travel, especially for the chance it gives me to gather resonating stories from interesting people from many walks of life.
