What is your teaching philosophy?

I believe that it's essential to make a genuine connection with students; to listen and use their own unique perspective and learning style to build their skills and ensure success.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

With a new student, I like to first get to know them and their interests, and then tell them something about myself so we build a connection. Then, when we discuss the subject at hand. I will listen carefully to figure out how the student learns and what he or she struggles with.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

I think it's essential to ask questions that make the student think critically and develop strategies that they can use on their own to solve problems.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I would work hard to build a personal connection with the student, which will help me determine what motivates them. I would set goals that are attainable but also challenging, since having a goal fosters motivation.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I would break down the concept as much as possible and use visual aids that aid in comprehension. I would ask as many questions as possible to determine what is causing the difficulty, and then find a new way of tackling the subject matter.
