My life has been spent in education, especially in the field of the medical sciences. I have been both the student and the professor for several years. Through these experiences I learned how to be a better student through teaching and a better teacher through listening to teachers. I hope to take the experiences, lessons, knowledge and passion I have gained over the years and pass it on to my students.

What is your teaching philosophy?
Every student learns in a different way. The important thing to do, just like in medicine, is listen first and then figure out the best course of action to work out for the best outcome.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
Introduce ourselves and ask what they would like to achieve with my help. Afterwards, I give them a positive outlook on the upcoming journey and build them up with a practice questions.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
The same way a parent teaches their child to ride a bike. You show them the basics and stay by them until they gain the experience and confidence to continue on their own.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Give them breaks every now and then, and show them how the big picture of what they are doing and how it will help their future goals. Sometimes I provide some of my own experiences.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
Find another way to teach it to them.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
Break it down to them in a way they can understand.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
Not to jump into the material right away but show them that what they already know is great, so they gain confidence in themselves and then continue from there.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
Show them the big picture and how it fits into life and will make them a great future career.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
Frequently question them on relevant material.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
Start with easier questions and work up from there.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
Ask them questions on the material and look at outlines from their teachers/professors.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
As I ask questions on the material and judge their responses, I will know their pace.
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
Textbooks, notepad/paper, pen/pencil, student's class notes, and sometimes a computer for video animations.
