I have loved the English language since I was six years old and wrote a story about a boy and his spider. My creativity followed me into high school where my zest for the subject was well appreciated by my teachers. I received a few awards because of this.
When deciding a major in college, I returned to my roots and chose English. I have used that background to teach my own children and work as a freelancer. For the past three years, I have taught English to children in China.
It was my experiences as at a summer camp for children with disabilities that led me to later pursuing a Master of Education in Special Education. I wanted to help children that learned differently. During my program, I was able to perform reading evaluations, learned about alternate testing, and studied differentiated learning. My own children's learning needs have given me experience individualizing education and applying executive functioning skills.
I believe that all children deserve to learn, no matter where they live. I find that encouraging children helps them shine in things they otherwise thought impossible.
I enjoy working with students in all areas of Language Arts such reading comprehension, grammar, and writing. My favorite is creative writing as it gives students the ability to express their feelings. However, I am also proficient at essay writing.

Another interest I developed when I was six was drawing. I drew my pediatrician as a clown and he was slightly offended. Sorry, Dr. G! As I love to read, it is not a surprise that I collect books. It started with Nancy Drew books when I was six or seven. My tastes have expanded over the years and I am currently looking for new manga to enjoy. I like hanging out with my family and my pets. We have three cats inside and one outside. They are not friends with the new puppy that joined us a few weeks ago. She likes to play hard. I guess my newest hobby will be dog training!
