Test taking has always been a game that I enjoy playing and I'm excited to share my tips, tricks and techniques with the next wave of students, crashing and breaking against the ivory tower of academia. Tests are often anticipated with dread, but a positive attitude, confidence, and the idea that examinations are an opportunity to demonstrate your knowledge and abilities will change the way that you approach your next big assessment. Together, we can prepare you for any test or academic challenge while exploring a studying style that you can use on your own in the future.

What is your teaching philosophy?

My teaching philosophy is that students learn way more when they are explaining than when they are listening.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

First sessions generally involve taking stock of their current study habits and grades and determining a course of action for achieving their goals.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Assigning homework is a good way to get students to work independently. Other options include teaching them research skills or study strategies.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

People can be motivated extrinsically or intrinsically, but I think that for a student to have success, they need to find an intrinsic motivation.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

Often, it's helpful to give a real-world example or try to make an analogy. Examining the unpinning concepts can also lead to a breakthrough.
