Which Sections Can Dallas-Fort Worth GRE Prep Help Me Review?
Varsity Tutors can set you up with Dallas-Fort Worth GRE prep that helps you review all sections of the exam. The GRE consists of 3 sections: Analytical Writing, Verbal Reasoning, and Quantitative Reasoning. You are required to complete all sections of the test in about 3 hours and 45 minutes. So that you can have knowledge of what to expect when you go to take the exam, let's look further at what is covered in each section.
The Analytical Writing section has 2 tasks. First, you will be given an issue that you will need to analyze. Second, you are given an argument to analyze. For each task, you will need to assess its directions, plan, and write a response, and check for errors and clarity. The skills assessed in this section are your abilities to articulate complex concepts clearly, support ideas with examples, examine claims using the evidence you are provided, and maintain a focused discussion. It also evaluates your command of written English. The scoring range for this section is 0-6 and you are allowed 60 minutes to complete it.
The Verbal Reasoning section allows 60 minutes to answer 2 sections of 20 questions. The scoring range for this section is 130-170. There are three types of questions in this section. The first is Reading Comprehension. For these questions, you will read a passage and then answer related questions to demonstrate your understanding and evaluation skills. There are approximately 10 passages per test, with 1-6 questions per passage. The second type of question is Test Completion. You will choose from one of the 3-5 options of answers to pick the best one that fills in blank sections of short passages. Lastly, there are Sentence Equivalence questions. You will use partial information in a single sentence to choose the best answers for how it should be completed. There are 6 choices per question, and you will choose 2 answers per blank.
For this section, you will need to have a good understanding of the meaning of individual words and sentences. You will also need strong skills in analyzing text, identifying the strengths and weaknesses of a position, interpret meaning from context, evaluate a passage, and reason about the whole from only parts of a passage.
The Quantitative Reasoning section will assess your basic math skills, your understanding of math concepts, and your ability to use logical reasoning and problem-solving skills to solve problems using quantitative methods. There are four areas of content covered which are Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry, and Data Analysis. Also, there are three types of questions in this section: Quantitative Comparison, Multiple-choice, and Numeric Entry. If you are taking the exam on a computer, you will be provided a calculator on your screen. If you take a paper version, you will be given a calculator to use.
There are two more sections that may or may not be included in your exam. They are both unscored and are used to try out possible questions for future use. One is the Experimental section. If this section is present on your exam, it will be embedded within the Verbal or Quantitative Reasoning sections and it will not be identified. The Research section, if included, will come at the end of the test, and may take the place of the Experimental section. This section is identified and is optional.

...currently a Master's student at Cornell University. I graduated with my Bachelor's of Science from Cornell in 2016 and I plan to attend medical school in the fall of 2017. I am really excited to be tutoring for Varsity tutors because I really enjoy helping students with subjects that gave me trouble in school. I hope that my time spent developing strategies to learn and absorb the tough material can help you succeed.... I think the key to understanding is context. I remember learning dense science material in one class that only made sense after I took the next class. Once I was able to see the big picture, the smaller details started to fall into place. I try to always draw back to the big picture so that a student always understands what they are learning and how it relates to other material.
