Tonight we revisited the related rates topics in preparation for the student's Calculus final that's coming up in a couple of months. We started with some basic related rates concepts, such as setting up the rates of changes with respect to time (rates in the d/dt style). We covered topics such as the change of area and volume of different shapes with respect to time, and finding the associated formulas. He is understanding these topics, and has a really good grasp on setting up the formulas and choosing which rates to find. We dabbled a little in going into finding the changes of angles, using the definitions of sin, cos and tan. We finished our session with finding the rate of change for two people walking in different directions (at a given angle), and at two different walking speeds. We used law of cosine, which was a good refresher on that approach to triangle problems. We'll continue his final preparation on Wednesday!
