You may find great benefits in a Houston Spanish course no matter where you're at in your Spanish studies, and Varsity Tutors can help you get enrolled. Whether you're a University of Houston student and are worried about passing your general education requirements, a Memorial High School student looking for a course that you can schedule around your extracurricular activities, or a working professional looking to expand your marketable business skills, we can provide courses to fit all comers. We can accommodate you if you're a beginner just getting started in Spanish, a proficient Spanish speaker looking to master the language, or if you're anywhere in between.
As the most-studied language in the US, Spanish is a popular choice for secondary language learners, and for good reason. There are more than 430 million native Spanish speakers worldwide, and over 45 million native or second-language speakers in the US. Spanish is the official language of around 20 countries, including the majority of Central and South America, in countries like Mexico, Peru, Argentina, Chile, and of course Spain. Becoming a Spanish speaker will give you access not only to rich cultures and histories across the globe but within America as well. The number of people who speak Spanish also makes it a very useful language for business and travel in a variety of ways. Most obviously, by learning Spanish you can be opening yourself up to a whole new world of job opportunities and markets, and bilingualism can look great on a resume. Additionally, Spanish is a Romance language, closely related to French, Italian, Romanian, and Portuguese, and learning it can give you some comprehension of all these languages. Spanish is generally considered to be one of the easiest languages for English speakers to learn and can be a gateway language for those interested in expanding their linguistic knowledge further.
What will a Houston Spanish class cover?
As Spanish derives so much from Latin, some material can be easy for an English speaker with a strong vocabulary. Many words are cognates and are spelled similarly or even identically in both languages. However, there are also prominent Greek and Arabic influences in Spanish as well, so not everything is directly comparable to English. You'll have to learn some new accented characters, and, although Spanish has a fairly simple and consistent set of grammatical rules, all languages have their idiosyncrasies. Spanish is a gendered language, so all nouns are assigned genders. Generally, this follows a pattern: nouns ending with an "o" are masculine and those that end with an "a" are feminine. However, there are exceptions, and those have to be memorized.
Conjugation presents a similar scenario. Although Spanish grammar tends to be simpler and easier to learn than English's tangled, inconsistent set of rules, there are still plenty of exceptions which must, again, be memorized. You'll also have to know how to match adjectives with the genders and numbers of nouns. Plus there are fundamentals that you can always work on, even if you've got a fair amount of Spanish experience, like pronunciation, advanced vocabulary, and other fine points of the Spanish language. There's a lot of ground to cover, but a Houston Spanish course aims to present the right material based on skill levels.
How will a Houston Spanish class teach me all this?
A Houston Spanish class is taught in an online virtual classroom where you'll receive live instructor from an expert Spanish teacher. You'll be able to see your classmates and teacher, and will speak with them in group discussions just as if you were gathered in a room together. How quickly and effectively you learn Spanish may depend on how much time you spend practicing the language, and by providing you with a place to use your Spanish skills with other students at your level, under the guidance of a qualified teacher, we can give you outlets to pursue your language learning goals. If you're a more advanced student, your teacher may even choose to teach entirely in Spanish, giving you an immersive language experience that can be useful in helping you develop fluency.
Of course, you may sometimes want the focused feedback that one-on-one instruction can provide, which is why a Houston Spanish course will also allow you to reserve time to go over topics with your instructor privately. The course is intended to be flexible, giving you many avenues towards learning Spanish. The course reflects this ethos in other ways, too. An online course takes your busy schedule into account by allowing us to offer a variety of course times, making these course more accessible to people with busy or unorthodox schedules. You also won't have to worry about how to fit an extra commute into your day. You'll be able to access your Spanish classroom in moments and participate in discussions from wherever you enjoy studying most. Easy access to your classroom may be important to you, especially when learning a language, as so much rides on your ability to regularly practice the material.
How can I get enrolled?
If you contact Varsity Tutors today, we can provide you with more information about the material the course will cover, course times and scheduling, and get you signed up for a Houston Spanish course that may transform your Spanish-learning experience. If you're a Carnegie Vanguard High School student we can find something that takes your sports activities or clubs into account, for example, or if you're a professional with a crammed work schedule and personal life, we might even be able to find something that fits into your lunch break. All skill levels will be welcome. Reach out today and you may be setting yourself up for a great opportunity for pursuing your language learning goals.

...math subjects, from algebra to pre-calculus and SAT math. I was always more of an independent thinker during high school, and I would usually try to solve things myself. However, I struggled a lot when the time for my SAT came around--to the point where I actually ended up needing a tutor myself for the math portion! Nonetheless, I acknowledged the power of tutoring when I ended up surpassing my own expectations for the exam!...
