If you are a high school student at a local institution like Olympian High School or a college student at a school like the University of California - San Diego searching for a way to improve your Spanish skills, Varsity Tutors can help you enroll in a San Diego Spanish course that fits your busy schedule. Learning a new language can present many new challenges, and studying in a traditional classroom setup may not be the most convenient solution, especially for adult learners. Different priorities, work, and personal commitments can hold you back from participating in a foreign language class. With all these difficulties in mind, Varsity Tutors has designed online Spanish courses that can cater to the needs of busy students.
Learning Spanish can bring personal and professional benefits especially when you consider that it is the second most spoken language in the world after Mandarin Chinese. There are 430 million native speakers of Spanish, and in the United States, there are over 45 million people who are native speakers or use it as their second-language. You'll also be glad to know that you can use your Spanish in more than 20 countries who use it as their official language. These countries include Peru, Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Ecuador, and Guatemala, along with the majority of countries in Central and South America.
In today's globalized world, knowing a second language can really be a useful skill. Aside from getting a shot at more job opportunities that require a specific language, you can also have an easier time connecting with people if you speak to them in their native language. Whether you are a high school student at Torrey Pines High School or a college student at the University of San Diego, being able to speak Spanish can be helpful not just in fulfilling language requirements at your school but also for job hunting, traveling, and living abroad.
What material will a San Diego Spanish course cover?
For beginners, it would be helpful to have a background about the language and know the different topics you will study at the start of your Spanish course. Grammar will of course be an important part of your study. Spanish grammar is mostly taken from the grammar rules of Latin, and around 75% of Spanish words have Latin roots. It is also influenced by Arabic and Greek, and some languages of the native cultures of the Americas have also contributed words into modern Spanish.
In your San Diego Spanish class, you will work with an experienced and qualified Spanish teacher on different topics such as parts of speech, which include nouns, adjectives, and verbs. For nouns, the instructor can help you learn more about noun genders. Similar to German, French, and Russian, Spanish is also a gender-based language where genders are often assigned based on the last letter of the noun. For example, nouns that end in "o" generally fall under masculine nouns, while nouns ending in "a" are usually feminine nouns. There are, of course, exceptions to this rule that you will just need to memorize as you learn the language.
Another topic that will be covered in your class is verb conjugation. Fortunately for English speakers, verb conjugation in Spanish tends to be easier than in English, but it can still be challenging. You will also discuss adjectives and the concept of noun-adjective pairing in Spanish. Noun-adjective pairing refers to the changes you need to make on the adjective's form in order to match the noun's gender and number - if the noun is feminine, singular form, you should also use the matching adjective form. For example, the noun "manzana" (apple) is feminine and singular in Spanish, so adjectives used to describe this word must also be in feminine, singular form. So, if you want to say "The apple is red," you will say "La manzana es roja" in Spanish. Roja is red in Spanish and is in the feminine, singular form.
Other topics that will be covered in your San Diego Spanish class include pluralization, pronunciation, vocabulary, and accents. You can also practice and apply what you have learned by conversing with your instructor and other students in the class.
How will a San Diego Spanish course help me learn?
If you are a beginner, learning a new language can be really confusing. That's why you need to have the guidance and expertise of an experienced and knowledgeable teacher. Varsity Tutors makes sure that private language instructors are not just fluent in the language they are teaching but are also experts in teaching and communicating grammar and nuances of the language to their students. We implement a rigorous interviewing and vetting process for all instructors so that only qualified teachers are able to conduct the language courses.
The Spanish classes are also offered online, which is important when you consider the busy schedules of students. Not being able to find a class schedule that fits is often one of the things that discourage a student in starting his or her foreign language class. With our online classes, it has become easier to start learning Spanish. Students can choose from different levels and sections. Plus, they can also get enrolled at a convenient time because classes start on a rolling monthly basis.
Even if the San Diego Spanish class is online, you will still experience a very interactive experience. In the virtual classroom, you can have live lessons with the instructor and engage in language learning activities with other students. Having the chance to learn and practice Spanish with a group under the guidance of a qualified instructor can help you get more used to the language faster than studying it on your own.
How can I get signed up?
Whether you are a student looking for Spanish courses or a professional who wants to add Spanish in your language skills, we can help you find the right Spanish course quickly. We have courses for weekends and weekdays, night courses, and even courses that start in the middle of the day, so you can always choose a class that fits your availability.
