Study Skills and Organization Tutoring review by Maggie in Cranston, RI
The student read through an article for her Business Ethics class, out loud. I took notes, and after every paragraph or so I would stop her and we would figure out which sentences were most pertinent (for highlighting), we would review the meaning of words she didn't know, and I would ask her to summarize the section for content. Often I would use my own notes to make sure she understood the main points/ arguments of each section.

The student worked on her homework for the week. She has an upcoming test in math next week which we mapped out a plan on how to study for. We organized and reviewed all of her homework due for the rest of the week. She is really on top of things and keeping all of her subjects organized!

We went through the binders for each subject that we separated last meeting. We threw out old stuff, and organized the papers we kept into individual tabs for each binder. We also set up a folder system for transferring things to and from school. One folder for current assignments/ papers and a folder for completed assignments/ papers. I think this more organized system will help with homework and the student won't feel so overwhelmed by all the papers he receives from school. He seems to feel good about this system, so we will see how well it works next week.

Study Skills and Organization Tutoring review by Austin in Cranston, RI
The student and I went over two worksheets that he had for homework. The first was on subtracting fractions. He had little trouble with this sheet. The other sheet was on dividing whole numbers by fractions, which he had little trouble with as well. However, what he did struggle with was the lone word problem at the end of the second worksheet. It took him some time to wrap his head around how to set up the math for the problem, but after some coaching, he was able to come up with it. We will work on more word problems in the future.

Study Skills and Organization Tutoring review by Rose Ann in Cranston, RI
Today, the student and I covered unit conversion, geometric areas/volume, word problems, and planetary science. Once he started, he remained focused. He has improved greatly with his unit conversions. He did very well with geometric volume and planetary science. I will try to find ways for him to become more engaged in his assignments. I see a lot of potential in him.

Study Skills and Organization Tutoring review by Joanna in Cranston, RI
The students both did very well on their last tests. Student 1 did label her diagrams as I suggested, and she said it really helped. Today, Student 1 was very clear on her math homework, which she finished quickly and then moved on to English. Student 2 had some questions on her math, which involved rhombuses, squares, and rectangles and their diagonals. We went over her questions, and I had her correct a few concepts. Then, I checked over the homework she had already done and went over a few more concepts about how diagonals split up these shapes.
