We briefly discussed her time with the sub (they focused on math). We then spent time reviewing her new answers and reasons from the practice test. We spent time practicing longer time segments for testing, with brief breaks and review. The goal is to train her to focus on the best answers instead of completing all the questions. We will meet again on Sunday to practice this theory.

Today, I sat down with the student and his father to discuss the obstacles that they wanted to address with our sessions and the goals that they wanted to see accomplished. They are most concerned with the student's disorganization, procrastination, grades, and getting assignments turned in. The goals for our sessions are to help him improve his overall organization, cement his study habits, and make sure he does not get any C's. He and I then discussed what classes he's taking, what the work load is like, and which ones he enjoys the most. We then worked on his Spanish homework, and I helped him dissect the more complicated questions so that he could understand them easier. To finish, we went over when he was going to start and finish his assignments for the week.

We were able to discuss upcoming homework assignments and delineate a schedule for the evening. That homework included reading, finalizing a rough draft, and responding to questions on a math assignment. The student projected this to take between an hour and fifteen minutes to an hour and thirty minutes. We concluded with a reminder that we would be meeting on Friday for collaborative and evaluative goal setting for the reminder of our scheduled sessions.

Today the student and I took a look at his course load, discussed and identified his learning style. We concluded that this student was an auditory learner and verbal processor, meaning he learns information best by hearing it and then verbalizing it to others. It was identified that the student already had some of the basic organizational skills and resources available to him to be successful in his studies, and I was able to assist him in learning how to best utilize those materials for success. We concluded the session by setting the student up with a plan for his homework and current studies that he could carry out with a parent or peer. The parent or peer will act as a support system for the student in order to assist him in verbally processing the information he is studying, thus allowing the student to learn using his specific learning style.

The student and I completed 2 writing assignments. We also selected his topic for a research paper. He completed all of his computer class assignments. As usual, he was hard working and a pleasure to work with.

The student had a great session today and finished all of his work by the end of the session! Today he finished the ACT section 3 and 4 questions and sent them to his teacher. Then, we worked on his chemistry lab pre-activity questions which involved setting up a graph and reflecting on evaporation. Those were the only tasks due tomorrow which means that our session tomorrow can focus entirely on completing his assignments over the long weekend. He has a sizable Civics project to do. He is really building some positive momentum at the start of this quarter!
