These strategies will help her when she approaches large scale writing assignments, like her thesis project.

The student and I worked on word problems and the order of operations. She has trouble seeing whether adding a parentheses component will change how an expression is evaluated, but she improved a lot during this session. We reviewed for her exam, which includes graphing polynomial expressions, inequalities, and systems of equations. She is well-prepared to complete her exam. We will take a look at her ACT material next session.

Sunday 10/12: The student and I worked on AP Physics B followed by Pre- Calculus. We worked multiple questions involving projectile motion, and I answered some questions she had in regard to her Physics Lab. We then shifted our focus to mathematics where we set up equations for functions, and then determined domain. I also reviewed how to graph unknown functions/lines/parabolas without the utilization of a graphing calculator. We ended with a brief review of even vs. Odd Functions.

Today we had a history lesson. We started by going over terms that describe government and financial systems and talked about lots of examples to really emphasize the concepts. We then spent the rest of the lesson going through his book which had to do with the Native American tribes of North America. The session overall went very well. We will continue trying to boost his confidence and making him more responsible for his own learning.

The student and I practiced affirmative and negative 'nosotros' commands using regular and reflexive verbs. Over the course of the session he was able to independently create the sentences on his own and explain the steps that he took to create these sentences (take off the -ar/-er/-ir of the infinitive verb, add -emos or -amos depending on the infinitive ending).

The student and I spent the majority of our first session together reading his history packet, and then answering its associated questions. He confided in me that he comprehends approximately 60% of the material that he reads. Therefore, I think it's essential that he asks plenty of questions when he finds himself confused. I also encouraged him to contact me outside of our regularly scheduled meeting times should he need me to review his written work.
