We began this session by doing the harder math problems. The student did well. I had her do another math problem set without my help. She did well, and hopefully gained more confidence in herself. We then did a few reading passages just to brush up on it before our last session. I left her with a little bit of math practice to do before our next session.

The student started with a worksheet from class on divisibility, which she did not understand at all when we started. We worked through similar examples so I could show her how to figure them out. I also showed her some tricks to help her out. She then finished her homework on division, which she did very well on.

The student worked on creating a long vowel sound by using two vowels together. She used plastic letters to create words by adding a consonant in front of the two letter combinations.

Today the student and I went over the basics of SAT math, including number theory, operations, and basic word problems. He had some issues setting up the problems to solve them, but by the end of the session, we had the beginning of a systematic approach in place. Next time we will begin going over algebra.

We covered problems with radicals. I first reviewed some of the problems that her teacher did in class and then we worked on the practice problems. I taught the student an easier way to factor large numbers and simplify roots. She quickly learned that technique and was able to apply that to other problems. She initially had difficulty with fractions with roots, but after 1-2 examples, she learned how to solve them. I first showed her how to do a problem, and then had her do it to make sure the information was retained.

Student 1 and I reviewed her homework, then I reviewed for Student 2's test at length. Student 1 is doing just fine. Student 2 is also making impressive progress.
