The student and I took today's session to work through her review packet for a test she has on Friday. I was glad that we went through the problems despite the fact that she had gone through them in class that day because she had changed some of her answers (to the correct answer) without fully understanding why she had gotten the incorrect answer in the first place. We worked to clarify the formulas for perimeter, area, and volume and I gave her a mnemonic device for remembering whether the units are just units, units squared or units cubed. I also created practice problems for many questions that appeared in her review that were either slightly more complicated or asked the problem in a slightly different way to reinforce her knowledge of the material. As always, I encouraged her to double check her work on the test and to try solving problems two different ways to ensure that she gets the same answer either way! I left her with a practice problem packet that she can continue to work on after she has made it through her test. Going forward, her mother has requested 1 hour sessions, which I feel will be completely appropriate given her age and relative comfort with 5th grade math.

We reviewed three digit by one digit multiplication. We briefly reviewed multiplication facts. We finished by using multiplication fact knowledge to learn division of two digit numbers by one digit numbers.

Beginning his new year, the student is working on early physics concepts. He has worked on most of these topics from chemistry and it has aided him in his preparation. He had some problems, but I gave him numerous examples and referred him to a video to help further. I let him know he can contact me anytime if he needs further assistance.

Today we went over the student's report cards and she is doing very well in school. We also went over her homework from the last session. She worked on division today as well as bar graphs. She also worked on fractions and comparing fractions to see which fraction is bigger or smaller.

The student and I went over some problems. Both had to do with asymptotes. She understands the concept of asymptotes and can identify why they occur and where. I think that understanding limits will further her understanding of asymptotes.

We worked on a review sheet for the student's final. We reviewed manipulating algebraic fractions, finding the equation of perpendicular lines, finding key parameters in the equation for a circle, the unit circle, and understanding domain and range. Overall, it was a productive session reviewing the material for the final.
