What is your teaching philosophy?
I believe learning should be fun! Learning in every subject can be fun and engaging, given the proper presentation. I believe that if you are having a good time while you learn, you learn more effectively. Also, learning as a student is a preparation for lifelong learning. Life is a lot more interesting when you try to always be learning something new.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
In the first tutoring session, I want to get to know the student. I want to get to know them a bit personally and really get a good picture for what they are learning and where they want to focus our attention on. I might ask for a syllabus for the course in question or look at some current assignments that they are working on. The more information the better!
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I can help students become independent learners by prompting them to connect ideas from different areas and make good educated guesses when they're unsure of how to proceed.
