What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I would take the time to get to know the student and see what they want from their tutoring sessions. I would also take time to understand how they best learn.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I would help a student stay motivated by providing them with insight into what their learning can afford them as they move through life.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I would do my best to try out different strategies for the student based on learning styles. I would attempt visual, verbal, etc., types of learning.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

In order to help students with reading comprehension, I use various strategies including chunking, paraphrasing, vocabulary prep, etc.
