In 20 years of experience as an educator, a B.S. in elementary education from GA College and University and a M.S. in Guidance and Counseling from Ft. Valley State University, I have found that every student has an area of interest and expertise that can be tapped into and utilized for student learning. I find that involving an area of interest and as many functional learning modalities as possible makes the concept more transferrable from one area to another. For example, when discussing sound waves if you have a student who is very interested in fishing you can connect it to the water ripples going out from the fishing line in the water.
