I graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History & Politics. After graduation, I worked in the USA with emotionally disturbed children. I then taught English as a foreign language (TEFL) in China for three years. Once back in the UK, I worked in the same school for 23 years. Initially, I taught History, up to and including A Level and IB.
I also taught A Level Psychology, and more latterly, Mandarin up to GCSE level.
In 2019 I was voted North-West England "Teacher of the Year." Winning this award led to an opportunity to teach Mandarin in an international school in Hangzhou, China. I taught online for one year and then spent two years teaching both History and Mandarin in China.
I am very passionate about teaching both Mandarin and History. I also really enjoy teaching English as a secondary language.
In my experience, students learn best when they are enjoying the lesson. I always ensure that my lessons are fun, but at the same time, challenging. I am a firm proponent of education, believing it to be absolutely necessary for an improved quality of life, and I try to impart this appreciation to all of my students.
