Let's work together!
I just finished my 17th year of teaching in the state of Ohio, and I'm very excited to be working with Varsity Tutors students!
I'm a naturally curious person who has an interest in learning about many things, and I'm passionate about fostering a love of learning in the students I work with!
I attended The Ohio State University and received an undergraduate degree in Human Development and Family Sciences, with a minor in Middle Childhood Education. Later, I attended Xavier University for graduate school, and received a teaching license in Middle Childhood Education (grades 4-9).
Currently I teach 6th grade Science online. I have worked at the Ohio Virtual Academy for 4 years, and have taught Science for 9 years. I truly enjoy my job, and working with my amazing students in the online learning environment every day! My students often tell me that I am helpful, fun, and creative!
In the past, I have also taught English/Language Arts (13 years) and Social Studies (1 year). I have a strong depth and breadth of experience, especially in Science and ELA. I would consider myself a specialist in preparing students for state testing in Reading/Writing! For several summers, I was the lead teacher of a summer reading remediation program as well.
When I taught 4th/5th/6th ELA in the past, I curated an extensive and diverse library of middle childhood literature books. It was my mission to help students fall in love with reading, and become life-long learners by connecting with a variety of quality literature!
Furthermore, I have had the pleasure of coaching multiple sports including: swim team, bowling, cheerleading, and Girls on the Run.
Previously, I've also led a Spanish Club, inspired by my own study of the Spanish language, and study abroad experiences.
In 2016, I was chosen by Miami University of Ohio to participate in a program called Project Dragonfly. I worked with a group of 12 teachers, doing scientific research in the rainforest, investigating the vast biodiversity of the environment there, and learning about/helping protect the ecology of Costa Rica.
I received a Fulbright-Hayes scholarship from the U.S. Department of Education in 2017, and spend a month in Peru with 17 other teachers. We stayed with a local family in Lima, studied Spanish at a local university, and learned about the country's educational system from a socioeconomic perspective. Fortunately, we also explored some amazing sites.
These study abroad experiences were truly incredible and life-changing!
At this point in my career, I have a wide variety of experiences, and feel very confident in my abilities as a teacher! I would love to work with YOU and help you reach your academic and personal goals!
