I've always been an omnivorous reader, even when I was little. Every generation is riveted to something. With me it was comic books. I would read them over and over, akin to an obsession with Pokemon cards. The fascinating aspect of being an avid reader, as I've discovered over the years, is that doors open everywhere in life. It's not about formal education; once you understand that knowledge is power, you might find yourself sleeping among the stacks one night at some university's library! Okay, I'm addicted to golf. If I hadn't dreamed of being a professional baseball player, I probably would have pursued golf professionally. But, I think the attraction can't be simplistically encapsulated by the ego. It's the aura (or gestalt) connected with one's endeavors that enriches it with meaning. If you've seen the film Field of Dreams, then you can probably relate.
