Saludos futuros estudiantes!

I'm Marti Barrera, a native Spanish speaker from Bogota, Colombia, with over 10 years of experience teaching Spanish to learners of all ages and backgroundsincluding children, university students, professionals, and U.S. diplomats.

I hold two master's degreesone in Marketing and another in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Languageand I'm starting my Ph.D. in Spanish Language Teaching in 2026. I'm certified to teach Spanish (PreK12) in Maryland.

My teaching style is patient, encouraging, and focused on cultural immersion. I help students build not only their grammar and vocabulary but also their confidence to use Spanish in real-life situations. Whether you want to improve conversational fluency, prepare for exams like ILR or AP Spanish, or deepen your understanding of Spanish culture, I tailor each lesson to your unique goals.

I look forward to helping you enjoy learning Spanish and reach your language goals!
Hasta pronto!

Hobbies

I have been happily married for 22 years. My husband, Alvaro, and I have two children: Izzie (15) and AJ (14). We also have a dog named Maxie and two parakeets named Bluey and Bingo. I enjoy spending my free time with my family, crocheting and knitting, preparing engaging lessons, and vacationing with my family—my brother, sister, nephews, and nieces—in Barranquilla, Colombia. I often incorporate my hobbies like knitting and crochet into lessons to make learning more fun and practical. Connecting with culture and family is very important to me and enriches my teaching approach.
