Teaching is not just a career for me it is my calling. For the past 12 years, I have had the privilege of working with students in grades 2 through 6, and every year has reinforced my belief that helping children learn and grow is the most rewarding work I could ever do. There is something truly special about watching a student who once doubted their abilities begin to believe in themselves. I am passionate about helping students because I know that with the right support, encouragement, and instruction, every child can thrive academically and gain confidence in who they are as learners.

My journey into education began after earning a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Arts from Catawba College. While I loved the creativity and expression of theatre, I discovered my true purpose when I pursued my K6 teaching certification at Appalachian State University. Since then, I've never looked back. I am now completing my 12th year of teaching and currently beginning the process of earning my National Board Certification in teachinga step I am excited to take in further deepening my practice.

Over the years, I have specialized in working with elementary students and particularly enjoy tutoring in Math and Reading. These subjects are foundational to academic success, and I love finding ways to make them engaging, accessible, and fun. Whether it's helping a student master multiplication through visual tools or guiding a reluctant reader to discover a book they can't put down, I tailor my approach to meet the individual needs of each learner.

My teaching philosophy is simple: all students can learn, but not all students learn the same way. I take the time to understand how each student thinks and processes information, and I adapt my strategies accordingly. I believe in using hands-on methods, visuals, and interactive techniquesespecially when teaching mathto make concepts more concrete and less intimidating. I also set high expectations because I believe in my students. And they know it. They know that I love what I do, that I respect them, and that I am invested in their success.

Being a tutor with Varsity Tutoring is an opportunity to extend my impact beyond the classroom. I am excited to support more students as they grow into confident, capable learners who believe in their potentialbecause I believe in them.
