If you're having a hard time finding quality Washington DC SSAT prep, Varsity Tutors would be happy to set you up with exceptional SSAT review options. The SSAT is a standardized exam used for admissions purposes when applying to an independent or private school. The exam measures a student's foundational reading, verbal, and math skills and includes an unscored Writing section. There are different SSAT exams for students of different ages. The elementary level exam is for third or fourth-grade students for the following year. The middle school level SSAT is for fifth, sixth, and seventh-grade students applying to an independent school for the following school year. The Upper-Level exam is for students from eighth to eleventh grade who are applying to a private high school for the following year. It's important for your student to do his or her best on this exam, and signing up for SSAT prep instruction can help your student to prepare more thoroughly than might be possible alone.
What topics and skills can Washington DC SSAT prep help my student review?
Washington DC SSAT prep can help your student review the various topics found in the sections on the SSAT: Quantitative, Reading, and Verbal, plus a Writing sample. The skills assessed in each section vary by level. Let's take a closer look at the skills needed for each SSAT level.
Elementary level students answer a total of 89 questions and will have one hour and 50 minutes in which to finish the exam. The Quantitative section takes 30 minutes and assesses to do basic addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, and graph interpretation. The Verbal section assesses your student's knowledge of synonyms and various analogies with a 30-minute time limit. The half-hour Reading section contains seven passages in which your student must be able to locate the main idea of a passage and determine the meaning of words using context. The 15 minutes Writing sample contains a single prompt. In this sample, your student needs to write a simple story based on a picture prompt.
Middle-level SSAT takers will have two hours and 50 minutes to complete the SSAT. The Writing sample for this level takes 25 minutes. Students will be provided with two creative prompts and must pick one to use as the basis for a story. There are two 25-minute Quantitative sections, which will assess your student's knowledge of arithmetic, elementary algebra, and geometry. The Reading section is a 40-minute assessment evaluating your student's ability to draw conclusions from a passage about an author's purpose, attitude, and tone. The Verbal section is a 30-minute evaluation and requires your student to determine the meaning or part of speech from the context of a passage.
Upper-level students will have two hours and 50 minutes to finish the SSAT. There are two Quantitative sections, which take an hour to complete. These sections will require your student to demonstrate his or her ability to solve algebraic problems, find the area of circles and other polygons, and other related tasks.
At the elementary level, there is no penalty for wrong answers, so test-takers should take a guess for each question. However, students taking the Middle and Upper-Level SSAT will receive a small penalty for incorrect answers. Students at each level will also take an Experimental section, which is not scored and only takes 15 minutes.
There is a lot of content covered on the SSAT, and a prep course or instructor can help your student feel confident that he or she has adequately prepared for this exam.

As an educator, I strive to ensure that all of my students gain knowledge from my lessons. However, that is not always the outcome. Re-teaching and re-evaluating are essential skills an educator must possess. I strive to meet the needs of all students. As your child's tutor I will work to get to know your child and establish a connection with your children in order to meet success. ... In typical first session with a student, I would get to know the student. I would work the student to find strengths and areas of growth as well as areas of interest and dislike. This way, I will be able to better service the student.
