The student and I worked on establishing the habit of checking/logging/reviewing study assignments as an everyday habit. She has made encouraging progress in noting assignments in her tracker and remembering to take home her science notebook to study. We spent time reviewing and discussing her science notes about physical and chemical properties and changes. I also had her show me her brain teaser games that I recommended for her. She seems to be enjoying them, and I'm optimistic that the games will improve the quickness of her mental arithmetic skills. I briefed her dad on the day's progress and made plans to come back on Thursday.

The student and I reviewed a previous test and worked with the current unit - vectors. Once she has a good example to work off of she tends to be a pretty quick learner. She did very well with the material.

The student and I spent the session focusing on systems of equations. I went over how to solve systems of equations using both the substitution and addition methods, and we practiced some problems using both methods. He understood the concepts well and excelled once he became familiar with the material. We finished the session by doing some word problems that focused on systems of equations.

The student started reading Much Ado About Nothing in English class. She has an ongoing study guide with questions about each scene and act that she needs to complete as she reads, in order to prepare for the final exam on the play. We worked on the set of questions pertaining to the scene she was reading for homework. I helped her interpret and "translate" the lines into contemporary English so that she was better able to understand and answer the questions in the study guide. She also asked me to give her a brief overview of the characters and general plot, which I did. That helped her to understand the characters' motivations better.

The student and I covered algebraically solving for variables through inverse operations of multiplication, division, subtraction, addition, and n-roots. He got better throughout the entire process and eventually even starting working ahead. It should be noted that I purposely made some algebra mistakes that he eventually found on his own, so he really is getting the hang of this quite quickly. He just needs to keep practicing and looking at his equation sheet that we write together.
