Tampa HSPT Tutoring FAQ
The HSPT, or High School Placement Test, is a type of HSEE, or High School Entrance Exam. However, don't let the name of the test fool you into thinking it only determines what classes your child is ready to tackle at their new private school; their score will be taken into consideration when the school administrators decide whether you accept your child into the school at all. This makes preparing for the exam properly very important, and you can get connected with a skilled HSPT tutor in Tampa, FL, who might help your child prepare for it efficiently by contacting Varsity Tutors. Our educational directors will connect your child and you with an experienced HSPT tutor who will be committed to helping your child excel on this important exam!
Even if your child has always earned good grades in public school, it is still important for them to study for the HSPT. It is a lengthy exam (it typically takes about 2.5 hours to complete), and the only exams that your child may have taken so far of that length have been the Florida Standard Assessments. However, your child's classroom teachers likely worked very hard to prepare your child for the FSA, and your child's public school teachers can't help them prepare for the HSPT. We will find you a skilled HSPT tutor in Tampa who will work to try to give the knowledge your child needs to thoroughly understand the HSPT. The test also contains geometry questions, which many eighth graders have not even studied yet in the classroom.
There are several versions of the HSPT, but all contain at least five main sections: language skills, mathematics, quantitative, verbal, and reading. However, every school that administers the test can choose to add up to three additional sections, including science, Catholic religion, and/or mechanical aptitude. The school can also make up their own personalized section that contains any other questions they would like new students to answer.
While this may sound like a lot for your child to prepare for (and it is!) an experienced HSPT tutor in Tampa, FL, can focus only on those issues that your child is struggling with to make their study sessions as efficient as possible. Your tutor will likely start by administering a practice HSPT to your child to see how they score in each section and which specific questions they answered incorrectly. They can then spend most of their time together working on the sections your child scored lowest in and even zooming in on the concepts behind the exact types of questions your child answered incorrectly. Don't worry that tutoring sessions will be difficult to squeeze into your child's busy schedule; your tutor can meet your child at your home or any other place convenient for you, such as a library or park, any time of day or night. Or you can choose to have your child study with their tutor face-to-face online using the Varsity Tutors Live Learning Platform.
An expert HSPT tutor in Tampa could help your child hone their test-taking skills and potentially ace the exam. Along with ensuring your child has the knowledge to score well on the exam, their tutor will give them time-management tips (such as when to skip a question to come back to later), tips and tricks for staying calm under pressure, and other important test-taking tips your child can use to perform their best on every test they take throughout the rest of their educational journey!
