If you are in need of help as you study for the LSAT, Varsity Tutors can connect you with professional New York City LSAT prep help. We can connect students of all ages and educational backgrounds with a New York City LSAT prep course, or a New York City LSAT tutor. Students applying for admission to ABA-accredited law schools such as Columbia Law School or Canadian common-law law schools are required to take the Law School Admission Test. Law school admissions boards review your score on the LSAT when determining your eligibility for admission. It is extremely important to score your best to give yourself the best chance of acceptance into the school you want. The LSAT can be a challenging part of the application process and using New York City LSAT preparation can help you reach for your desired score.
What Is Covered by New York City LSAT Prep?
The LSAT contains four sections. Each section is designed to assess different skills that you will need to be successful in law schools like the New York University School of Law. New York City LSAT prep covers all four sections of the test, including Reading Comprehension, Analytical Reasoning, Logical Reasoning, and Writing. To prepare you for what to expect on test day, we'll provide more detail about each section.
You will be given 35 minutes to answer all of the multiple-choice questions in the Reading Comprehension section. The questions in this section are designed to measure how well you can read and understand complex texts that are similar to ones you will be presented with in law school. The questions will ask about characteristics of passage or a pair of passages such as the main idea, information that can be inferred, explicitly stated information, the meaning of words or phrases, the structure, correlations to arguments, the impact of new information, and the author's attitude based on the tone of the passage. Passages in this section will be long and will likely contain high-level vocabulary.
For the Analytical Reasoning section, you will also be given 35 minutes to answer all of the multiple-choice questions. This section assesses your skills in reasoning using conditional statements, inferring information from provided facts, determining a complete solution to a problem you are given, and recognizing when two statements are logically equivalent. This section measures your ability to read and comprehend the structures of relationships and draw conclusions.
The Logical Reasoning section is split into two parts and you will be allowed 70 minutes to answer all of the multiple-choice questions. These questions will use content from sources such as magazines, newspapers, scholarly publications, informal discourse, and advertisements. The questions in this section measure your analyzing, evaluating, and argument completion skills. You will need to know how to identify parts of an argument and compare them. You will also need to draw conclusions that are well-supported and determine how additional evidence would affect an argument. The ability to identify flaws and misunderstandings in an argument will be essential when answering these questions.
Finally, there is a Writing section. You are required to complete this section within one year of completing the other sections. In this section, you will be presented with a problem. You will need to choose between different positions or courses of action. You will also need to defend your decision with well-supported examples and reasons. There are no wrong answers in this section as it is meant to demonstrate your argumentative writing skills. Although this section is not scored, law schools will be provided with your writing sample in order to determine your reasoning, organization, language usage, and writing skills.
You will go to a test center to take the digital portions of the LSAT. You will be provided a tablet that you will take the test on. Answers are chosen by tapping the screen. There are features on the tablet like a timer with a five-minute warning, and the ability to highlight or flag questions that you may want to come back to later. Later, you will take the Writing section online using a secure testing platform.
Your raw score on the LSAT is calculated on the number of questions you answer correctly. All questions are weighted exactly the same, so the total number you answer correctly is the only factor that affects your raw score, not the particular questions you got right. Since there is no penalty for answering incorrectly, you should guess if you don't know the right answer. Your raw score is converted to a scale that ranges from 120 to 180, with 180 being the highest possible score you can achieve.
How Can New York City LSAT Prep Help Me Review?
We can connect you with LSAT prep that can help you review in many ways. If you choose to take a New York City LSAT prep class, you can benefit from participating in collaborative online group learning. With a professional instructor and other students that are also preparing for the LSAT, you can learn different types of techniques and skills that can help you retain information better or even improve your approach to studying. One-on-one time with your instructor is also an option if you need additional help with a particular section or topic.
We can also connect you with an LSAT tutor if you like to learn using individualized learning sessions. Individualized learning sessions allow more focus and attention from a professional instructor than what you might receive in a classroom session. Your instructor can create a learning plan based on your goals and learning style. This plan can be adjusted to your needs as you learn the material.
Both of these LSAT prep options are offered online, meaning that you can choose when and where you learn.
