Today we worked on multiplying and dividing decimals. Then, I had the student work on math word problems that included addition, subtraction, division and multiplication. Then, I had him read a short story and answer the reading comprehension questions.

The session began with the student and I working on Grammar homework. He was responsible for correcting several sentences. He and I reviewed rules for capitalization, punctuation, and quotation usage. Once he completed his grammar homework, we read for 20 minutes together.

The student studied for her vocabulary quiz then did 45 minutes of reading aloud as I asked her questions about her reading. She has made lots of improvements in her reading comprehension, and she was able to recall many themes of the book from class to connect it with the new things she was reading. We did a fraction identification game on her tablet, then did six word problems and two long division problems, all of which she excelled at.

The student and I went over vocabulary and history. I also assisted him with some homework that he had been assigned, which was entitled "Challenge Words." He got all of his questions correct; the only thing I had to help him with for his homework was how to pronounce the words.

We spent the bulk of this session preparing for a speech that the student needs to give tomorrow. She had a draft written already, so we reviewed and edited that. I then had her stand and practice delivering the speech, gave feedback and reviewed specific parts, and we repeated 3 times. The main things she needed to work on were making eye contact with the audience and vocal expression. She also occasionally would change words, making her sentences no longer grammatically correct, so we worked on strategies to help with this.

The student has a couple tests left in the semester. Together we reviewed the science notes from the day she missed in class. We worked on some easy ways to remember formulas and talked a lot about plant cells and photosynthesis. Her test over this will be Friday. We also reviewed a previous social studies test to help her review for a test in that subject on Friday. Some of the people are still confusing for her, but we worked on keeping them straight. She has a math video lesson to do but was confident she could do that on her own. Best of luck to her on her tests and I will meet back up with her in January!
