Study Skills and Organization Tutoring review by Drew in Newton, MA
We covered two primary things today. First we looked at a paper of his, continuing our discussion of punctuation, sentence structure, and grammar. Then we switched to reading. I brought passages that I thought would align with his interests (animals, nature), and this proved much more effective than previous sessions. I believe confidence, concentration, and interest are key; his retention and concentration level were higher.

Covered missed homework problems. Worked through entrance exam achievement test practice problems, which doubled as review practice. Assigned review homework problems CL 1-138 through 1-146 from textbook. After this, he should be well caught up.

I helped the student develop and edit the rough draft of a two-paragraph essay about a novel assigned for his English class. He had more left to do when we finished, but he did good work thinking about what to include in the essay and how to structure it. For the last fifteen to twenty minutes, we talked about Abraham Lincoln, Jefferson Davis and the Civil War for his history class.

Study Skills and Organization Tutoring review by Lauren in Newton, MA
Today we worked on the problem of the month from last time and I tried to show the student a little bit of Algebra. We continued with his math homework, which he required very little help with--just reading the problem carefully at times. After about 30 minutes, we took a break to work on grammar--plural nouns and irregular endings, which we'd practiced last time. He learned a few more irregular nouns and a few more rules for adding -s or -es at the end of nouns. The last fifteen minutes he used to finish any math homework.

Study Skills and Organization Tutoring review by Karra in Newton, MA
Student 1 did really well! She seems to be beginning to get comfortable with fractions. The issue continues to be her paying attention to the details; she needs to pay attention to the signs and remember what steps are next depending on the operation. We will continue to work on this. Student 2 did well with her math homework as well. She is now multiplying by 4 digit numbers and seems to be acclimating well to that. I still recommend she use the matrix method as she appears to be the most proficient at this method. She also had some spelling homework--ABC order. She did fine with that as well! Overall, it was another great tutoring session!
