We went over equality and inequality concepts for math, including word problems that involved setting up expressions. We spent time only on math today since that area is weaker than science for the student.

The student and I continued our review from the previous two sessions. I brought worksheets with diagrams for her to complete in quiz format. I left blank copies of these for her to practice on. We reviewed key terms and concepts. This was our last session before her exam.

We began this session by going over all of the assigned work from our previous session. We checked two math sections and one critical reading section. The student has greatly improved in her accuracy and logical thinking. She is scoring much better than when we began. I feel that she is really utilizing the test taking skills and strategies as well as using her own knowledge to be successful. We have one more session before her SAT test.

We prepared with the student for his 8th grade writing test, to be taken later during the week. We came up with mock prompts and brainstormed introductory paragraphs and how to develop catch hooks and introductions. We outlined body paragraphs and how to develop coherent paragraph that flowed well together.

Tonight, The student and I reviewed for his test over exponential and logarithmic functions, practicing expansion, simplification, graphing, evaluation, and equation solving. He had almost no difficulty with the concepts or processes; all of his mistakes were minor, and most of them were unrelated to the core concepts. If he takes his time and writes a little bigger, he should have no trouble avoiding those.
