Hola! My name is Megan and I have my bachelors in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages and my masters in Instructional Technology. Since graduation, I have traveled extensively, emerging myself in different cultures all around the world.

I have been teaching English as a New Language since 2017 in public schools all over NYC. In addition to teaching kids, I also tutor adults adults in Queens, New York looking to learn more English.

While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about English, Literature, and History. In my experience helping struggling students prepare for Standardized Tests, we always seem to have the most fun (with remarkable advancements) prepping for the Critical Reading and Writing portions of the exams. I am a firm proponent of education, believing it to be absolutely necessary for an improved quality of life, and I try to impart this appreciation to all of my students. In my spare time, I enjoy traveling to new places, hiking, going to church and trying a new recipe!

Finally, when it comes to education I believe there are 5 simple components to impacting students to creating lifelong learners.

1) Education is a group effort. The teacher's role is to act as a guide and have the student become the master.

2) Students must have access to hands-on activities, to build creative thinking skills.

3) Students must use technology at some point every day during the school day. By 2038 more than 85% of jobs are expected to be fully remote. This will create 21st century thinkers

4) Students will feel safe and respected. No one can be their best self when they are on guard.

5) Students should be able to have choices and let their curiosity direct their learning.

Hobbies

I have always been described as energetic, so naturally I love to do anything where I'm moving. I love hiking with my dogs, taking long runs and occasionally I'll put on my old soccer cleats back from my college days and play a game of pick up with some friends. However, a true passion of mine is cooking. I love being in the kitchen and I love seeing the joy and love around a full table. Lastly, I really just love helping people. My husband and I volunteer at a food panty and giving back has become something I really love to do.
